For those about to rock, I salute you...
I first held a camera at a Sisters of Mercy concert in Athens back in '97. It was only a tiny compact one with a built-in flash and the results were pretty bad, but I got instantly hooked on live photography and my world has never been the same since. I have been chasing artists and bands for that perfect unique onstage moment all over the world. Following my passion I have gone to various gigs and festivals around the globe, meeting some of the most amazing characters.
In the first few years I was concentrating on the gothic & electro scene, but these days I'm likely to shoot anybody from Alice Cooper to Madonna and my portfolio ranges over a very wide musical spectrum. I have literally shot thousands of bands: some unknown, some arena-filling, some too noisy, some very melodic, some performed in churches, private houses and high school reunions and some in front of 100,000 people and televised around the world, some became my friends, some truly horrofied me as personalities, but all formed the fabulous tapestry that has been my life for the last two decades.
My work has seen the light of a variety of media:
CDs ::: Clan of Xymox - Live, Diamanda Galas - La Serpenta Canta
books ::: Mick Mercer – 21st century Goth
magazines ::: SONIK (Greece), Darklife (UK), Zillo (Germany), Snoozer (Japan), Music Life (Greece), Metal Hammer (Greece)
web ::: avopolis, raymanzarek.us, Diamanda Galás, Clan of Xymox, starvox and -oh so- many others.
I used to live in the UK, Canada and the US, but I am currently based in Greece, contributing work to avopolis, and Metal Hammer Greece and freelancing. I am always interested in new bands, magazines and ideas and I would love to hear from you. If you'd like me to cover your gig/concert/event or contribute photos to your publication, get in touch and we can discuss it further.
